HTC Desire 12 review
Tons of budget goodness
The HTC Desire 12 is going to make an impact in May 2018, when it arrives in the UK. If you have been searching for a phone that doesn’t cost much, but looks as premium as diamonds and gold, then this HTC mobile phone review is going to be for you.
Build Quality
Long yet slim
Long yet slim is definitely the way to go in 2018. With a 18:9 screen aspect ratio, the phone is slimmer so that you can hold it but it gives you extra rows of pixels. This means that you can see more on a 5.5” display with HD+ resolution.
Comparison: HD+ has 720 x 1440 pixels / HD has 720 x 1260 pixels.
The body of the HTC Desire 12 has a seamless frame and the Liquid Surface is highly reflective. No one seems to do this better than HTC, so if you like the glossy, silky look, then you won’t be disappointed.

The body is nice and slim at 8.2mm and this is one of the lightest smartphones around at137g.
Costs are kept down with a MediaTek 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM. Apps and your photo gallery may not open in the blink of an eye, but the performance isn’t annoying, particularly when you take into account the low price tag.
Phone Set Up
Transferring your old content
You can transfer any content from your old smartphone onto the 16GB memory, of which 8GB is free for storage. The amount of internal memory has been kept low and this ensures that small purchase value.
New: Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium review
You shouldn’t be concerned here though as you can, for example, save your photos in the cloud with Google Photos or insert an up to 2TB microSD card, when you need more memory.

Features
HTC Sense Companion
The HTC Sense Companion will soon become your best friend. On the HTC Desire 12, this will learn from actions that you take, in order to perform various preemptive tasks.

A few examples of what the HTC Sense Companion can do are listed below:
- Reminders of upcoming events and holidays
- Automatic deactivating and activating of your morning alarm when you are on holiday
- Reminders to charge your phone
- Monitoring and alert of any abnormal activity taking place in the background
- Android OS
The HTC Desire 12 has the Android Nougat operating system. It is a shame that you miss out on the later Android Oreo, but once again this is a choice made in order to keep costs low. In reality, you don’t miss out on much and lets face it an app is an app, no matter which OS it is running on.
Android fact: Around only 1% of Android smartphones are on Oreo.
Camera & Video
13MP camera
The HTC Desire 12 has a high resolution 13MP camera with Phase Detection Autofocus. This type of autofocus is excellent at capturing photos that have moving subjects and the results are motion-blur free.
Other camera features include:
- Face detection
- Panorama
- Self timer
- Full HD video recording with Video Pic
- 5MP Selfie camera
- Beauty mode
- HDR
Comparison: The HTC Desire 12+ has a dual 13MP + 2MP main camera.
