ZTE Axon M review
A dual screen revelation
Our ZTE Axon M review finds dual screen fun with a truly different type of foldable smartphone. This ZTE phone is no gimmick because it has an impressive mid-range spec that will rival single screen smartphones.
The ZTE Axon M is truly different with its dual screen and foldable design. The phone has two identical 5.2” LCD Full HD displays (1920 x 1080 pixels / 426 pixels per inch).

The dual screen allows you to use the phone in four different configurations:
- Dual Mode - Here you have the phone opened up with one screen sitting above the other. This means that you can open one app on one screen and a different app on the other. So you can watch a full screen movie on one screen, while browsing a social network on the other.
- Extended Mode - Here the two screens combine to give a tablet-sized 6.75” viewing platform, which is great for playing games.
- Mirror Mode - Here you fold the device into an upside down V and share the same content with people sitting on the opposite side of the table. This is great for watching a movie when you cannot sit side-by-side.
- Traditional Mode - Here you close the phone up and use one screen just like you would on a tradition single screen smartphone.
The two screens get protected by the toughest glass from Corning, with Gorilla Glass 5. The only payoff for this dual screen experience is a slightly heavier phone at 230g and a slightly thicker phone at 12mm thick (when closed).
Phone Set Up
Biometric security and transferring content
The ZTE Axon M has a fingerprint scanner integrated into the power key, on the side of the phone. This allows you to wake and unlock the phone in one action.

If you have content to transfer over from an old smartphone, then there is a 64GB memory. Should you need to expand the memory in the future, then there is a 256GB microSD card slot.
Android OS, sound and performance
The ZTE Axon M is powered by Google’s Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system. This gives you all of the essential apps you need, such as Google Maps, Chrome, Gmail and YouTube.
Glorious Hi-Fi sound performance is delivered through dual speakers with Dolby Atmos. There is plenty of processing power as well with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 2.15GHz quad-core processor with 4GB RAM.
Camera & Video
Due to its dual screen and foldable form, there is only a need for one camera. You can either point it at a landscape and use the other display as the viewfinder or take selfies by looking at the screen that has the camera lens positioned above it.
