ZTE Axon 7 mini review
Phenomenal performance at an affordable price
Our ZTE Axon 7 mini review uncovers a smartphone that is very affordable, yet has fantastic sound, camera and display. ZTE has really hit the nail on the head with this smartphone, so read on to find out if it is for you.
Display and design
The ZTE Axon 7 mini has a really bright and vivid 5.2” AMOLED Full HD display (1920 x 1080 pixels), giving it a very fine 423 pixels per inch. Practicality hasn’t been forgotten and this ZTE phone is protected by toughened Coring Gorilla Glass 4.

The premium feel is delivered through the use of an aluminium full metal body. Design interest is added through the speaker grills on the top and bottom of the front face, while across the back runs contrasted antenna bars.

The ZTE Axon 7 mini has an octa-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor with 3GB RAM, which is plenty powerful enough for gaming and browsing the internet at 4G speeds. All of this hardware is crafted into a body that is 7.8mm thick and weighs 153 grams, which is pretty middle of the road in terms of weight.

Security and memory
The ZTE Axon 7 mini, like many other 2017 phones, incorporates a fingerprint scanner for security and this is located on the back. Of course, you could opt for more traditional security by adding a PIN or pattern security.

There is plenty of memory for transferring content from an old phone and of the 32GB internal memory, 22GB is left free for the user. If needed, you can insert a 128GB microSD card to boost the memory further.
Dolby Surround Sound
The star feature of the ZTE Axon 7 mini is its high-end sound, which may even be better than HTC BoomSound. Dolby Atmos Digital Plus 7+1 Surround Sound gives a powerful bass with less distortion.
The dual stereo speakers create a 3D sound effect and gives crystal clear Hi-Fi quality audio.
Android OS and MiFavor
The ZTE Axon 7 mini is powered by Google’s Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow but a little character is added to this through ZTE’s MiFavor UI 4.0. This user interface offers redesigned app icons which are square with rounded corners.
Camera & Video
High-end smartphone photography
The ZTE Axon 7 mini has another star feature in the guise of a 16MP camera, with a Sapphire Lens and dual LED flash. Photography is aided by Super Auto Mode with Auto HDR, Night Shot and Automatic Scene Optimisation.
Full HD 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second is possible but for a little fun, you can record Slow Motion video at 720p quality at 120 frames per second.

The secondary portrait camera has a 8MP resolution with Face Detection, Beauty Selfie and a 88 degrees wide angle lens, for taking group selfies.
Quick Charge 2
The ZTE Axon 7 mini doesn’t run short on battery reserves with a healthy 2,705mAh of capacity. This provides up to 15 hours of talk time or up to 270 hours of standby.
Connect the ZTE Axon 7 mini to the charger for 30 minutes and you can gain 46% charge, thanks to Quick Charge 2.0. It doesn’t take too much longer to acquire full charge, which can be achieved in just 90 minutes from flat.
