Sony Xperia 10 review
Our Sony Xperia 10 review takes a look at the more affordable option in the latest range of Sony handsets. You still get some great features including a Cinema Wide display that is seen on the more expensive Sony Xperia 1. The Xperia 10 is a great phone for those that want a Sony premium feel on a budget.
A cinema in your pocket
The Sony Xperia 10 has the same CinemaWide 21:9 display that debuted on the Xperia 1, although this has a smaller HD+ 6-inch screen compared to the X1's 6.5-inch 4K display. This gives the phone a long, slim appearance because it adopts the aspect ratio of a cinema screen.
There is a special Creator Mode powered by CineAlta technologies which provide exact colour accuracy. You can stream 21:9 content on Netflix and if it's not HDR quality the phone will upscale it as it is streamed.

The HD+ display has a resolution 1080x 2520 pixels, which equates to 457 pixels per inch. The extra long display is perfect for multitasking, and in fact, this is multi-tasking at its very best.
Corning Gorilla Glass
The Sony Xperia 10 is a durable smartphone that has a metal frame with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 front and back.
The phone is slim at 8.4mm thick and it weighs 162g, which is consistent with models in this price range. You can choose the colour that you like from four options; Black, Navy, Silver, and Pink.
The Xperia 10 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core 2.2GHz processor with 3GB RAM. This is less power than you get on the Xperia 1 which has 6GB RAM but as this is the lower priced model that is to be expected. Even though it is not as powerful as the higher-end model you still get an amazing performance when multitasking or gaming.
Phone Set Up
Side-mounted fingerprint sensor
Sony has changed the position of the fingerprint reader on its new phone range. It is no longer integrated into the power button, so it is a fingerprint sensor only and it has been positioned between the volume keys and the power button. This is actually a good position as it is where your finger will naturally be placed when picking up the phone.
You can bring your files, images and media over to the Sony Xperia 10, which has a big 64GB memory. If you need extra space there is a microSD card slot for cards of up to 512GB.
The superb display has been made for watching movies with the 21:9 aspect ratio. Cinema-style entertainment can be streamed from Netflix so you can enjoy movies and more on the go. Edge-to-edge entertainment and a stunning display make this phone the perfect choice for enjoying videos or mobile gaming.
The phone includes a Smart Amplifier for richer and enhanced sound. High-res audio makes your music sound superb and LDAC delivers fantastic wireless sound.
Android Pie with a Sony touch
The Sony Xperia 10 has Android 9 Pie OS on board and this has been enhanced with Sony’s user interface. In particular, Side Sense uses artificial intelligence (AI) to show you apps based upon when they were last used, the time, and your location.
You simply double tap anywhere on either side of the Xperia 10 and the apps are displayed based on your phone usage.
Camera & Video
21:9 Movie recording
The cameras on the Sony Xperia 10 take video recording to a new amazing level. The Record Cinema Pro feature is powered by CineAlta and lets you record with LOOK colour settings. With these, you can choose the feel and look of each scene with eight different colour settings allowing you to release your inner movie producer.
The Sony Xperia 10 has a dual rear camera with a 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel lens. The 13-megapixel lens allows you to choose different aspect ratios, including 21:9. The 5-megapixel lens allows you to add depth effects including blurred backgrounds for an artistic touch to the shot.
Further camera features include:
- 21:9 capture (video and image)
- 5x digital zoom
- Bokeh effect – blur the background
- 4K video recording
- Hybrid Autofocus
- Slow Motion – record at 120fps
The front camera is an 8-megapixel lens that can capture an 84-degree wide-angle shot making it perfect for group selfies. The display flash will illuminate the shot and with SteadyShot technology, you can capture clear images and video.
The Xperia 10 has a 2,870mAh capacity battery and a Smart Stamina battery management feature. Smart Stamina analyses your usage and makes adjustments to settings throughout the day, these changes make sure you always make it home to plug in and recharge the phone.
The life of the battery is extended through Adaptive Charging. This will monitor the battery while it's plugged in and adjust levels to protect the battery from being overworked.
