Sony Xperia 10 Plus review
Our Sony Xperia 10 Plus review comes hot on the heels of the release of a phone that has more screen, which opens up new viewing experiences and possibilities. The Sony Xperia 10 Plus is on sale from £23 per month on a two-year contract, which makes it great value for money.
21:9 cinema wide display
The Xperia 10 Plus has a 21:9 6.5” Wide Display with Full HD+ resolution. The 21:9 screen aspect ratio makes the phone taller or wider, depending on whether you are using the phone in portrait or landscape mode.

The display will let you watch movies with a true cinema screen ratio, so you can see all of the action, just as the director wanted you to. In portrait mode, scrolling is reduced because you can see more of the website or app that you are using.

All of that extra screen space makes this Sony phone perfect for those who multitask. Image Enhance Technology ensures you get the best viewing experience and at night, the Night Light turns the screen amber, to reduce eye strain.
Durable glass, fast processor
The Sony Xperia 10 Plus boasts a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 front and this is extremely tough and resists scratches. The design is ergonomic and the metallic finish shows a touch of class.
You can pick up the Xperia 10 Plus in Navy, Black, Gold, or Silver, all of which look professional and classy. The phone isn’t overly heavy at 180g and it is fairly slim at 8.3mm.
Inside, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 1.8GHz processor with 4GB RAM. This chip has four high-performance cores (40% higher performance compared to the previous chip) and four efficiency cores that help extend the battery time, when your not gaming or undertaking other performance-centred actions.
Phone Set Up
Fingerprint security, expandable memory
With a fingerprint sensor positioned on the side, the Sony Xperia 10 Plus brings user authentication that doesn’t depend on an unsightly button below the display. There is more good news with a 64GB memory and a 512GB MicroSD card slot, which will let you bring over your photos, videos, and apps from your old phone.
This Sony smartphone comes with High-Resolution Audio with DSEE HX and LDAC. Coupled with the Smart Amplifier and the Music app, you will be able to experience rich, loud, and clear sound with enhanced bass. Sony has added an equaliser and surround sound so that you can tailor the sound to your choosing.
Side Sense makes it ever so easy to multitask with a tap on the side of the phone launching two apps of your choice. You can quickly view your favourite apps (curated by AI in Xperia or by your own choice) with a double tap anywhere on either side of the phone.

The Android 9 Pie operating system delivers a series of Google essentials, such as Maps, Search, and the Google Assistant. With a simple swipe, you can switch to the mini UI and use the phone with only one hand and this can, from time-to-time, be extremely beneficial with that large screen.
Camera & Video
Cinema wide photography
The Sony Xperia 10 Plus has a dual camera with a 12MP lens and an 8MP lens. This gives you 2x optical zoom, for getting in close without image distortion. The 12MP lens captures fine detail, colour, and contrast, while the 8MP lens creates a depth map that will let you defocus the background, an effect known as Bokeh.
The aspect ratio of your photographs can be changed and this feature is very useful. You can take photos or record video at a screen-filling ratio of 21:9, or take a 1:1 ratio image that is sized just right for sharing on Instagram.
Further camera features include:
- 4K video recording
- Shutter speed – lengthen the shutter open time to capture motion blur
- AR effect – add avatars and stickers to your photos
- Movie Creator – make a video using your photos
- Slow-motion movie – record video at 120fps
Portrait Selfie effects
The Sony Xperia 10 Plus has an 8MP selfie camera and this offers up Portrait Selfie effects. Portrait Selfie effects include:
- Soft Skin
- Skin Brightness
- Eye Enlargement
- Slender Face
For low-light selfies there is a display flash. For convenience, there is a Smile Shutter that automates the click process, so that you can make a more natural pose.
With a 3,000mAh battery, the Sony Xperia 10 Plus will see you through the day. To make double-sure of this, Smart Stamina software predicts your usage and adapts the power settings as needed.
A further essential element to good battery life is charging. Battery Care and Xperia Adaptive Charging ensure the battery isn’t stressed during charging and this lengthens the life of the battery.
