Sony Xperia L4 review
The first L Series phone with a triple camera
Our Sony Xperia L4 review breaks down all you need to know about Sony’s latest entry-level phone. Priced around £170, this phone replaces the Sony Xperia L3, with improvements including an extra camera lens, a bigger screen, and a bigger battery.
Wide cinematic display
The Sony Xperia L4 has a 6.2” Wide 21:9 HD+ (1,680x 720) LCD display. The 21:9 screen aspect ratio is longer or wider depending on which way you are holding it, and this makes it ideal for viewing websites, message threads, and for navigating using maps.

Keep up to Date
Fill in the form and be the first to know when the Sony Xperia L4 is released.
There is multi-window functionality where you can see two separate windows for running two apps side-by-side. This is an excellent option for when you have a chat window open while doing something else, like watching a video or browsing Facebook.
The long slender display fits in your hand comfortably, and a mini-display feature gives you the solution you need for one-handed use. The display has a small notch at the top for the camera lens and notification light, so you don’t need to turn on the display to see if a message has come through.
The Sony Xperia L4 is available in blue or black, and both options look superb. This Sony mobile phone has pretty typical design characteristics at 8.8mm thin and 178g.
Phone Set Up

Sony’s Xperia L4 has a handy Side Sense menu that lets you access your apps and settings quickly by tapping the Side Sense Bar on the edge of the screen. This saves a considerable amount of time and effort, negating the need to go scrolling through many pages to find your favourite apps and settings.
Additionally, you can slide the Side Sense bar down to go back to the previous screen. A variety of other taps can be used to access the Side Sense settings quickly or to go into multi-window mode.
Android and Sony UI
The Sony Xperia L4 runs on Google’s Android 9 Pie operating system. This gives you pre-loaded apps such as Gmail, YouTube, and Google Maps, as well as access to the Play Store for downloading new apps.
The Sony UI gives the phone a fresh look and also adds apps made by Sony, with one of these unsurprisingly being a Music App. Apps run smoothly thanks to the Mediatek octa-core 2GHz processor with 3GB RAM, and with Bluetooth 5, you can connect to other devices more reliably and at farther distances.
Camera & Video
Go ultra-wide with the triple camera
The camera on your Sony Xperia L4 has three lenses. The first is a 13MP 26mm wide-angle lens with a 76o field of view, which is perfect for most situations. However, when scenes deserve cinematic framing, you can switch to the 5MP 17mm ultra-wide-angle lens with a 117o field of view.
The third lens is a 2MP depth lens, and this allows you to capture bokeh de-focused backgrounds, which makes subjects stand out with dramatic effects. With multi-aspect shooting, you can record videos at the 21:9 cinematic aspect ratio, aided by video stabilisation and stereo sound recording.
Further Xperia L4 camera features include HDR (High Dynamic Range), panorama shot, burst shooting, and 4x digital zoom.

The Sony Xperia L4 has an 8MP selfie camera with a display flash and Portrait Selfie. Portrait Selfie helps you take better-looking selfies by applying a series of effects, which include:
- Bokeh – blur the background
- Skin brightness – brighten your skin tone
- Soft skin – soften your skin tone
- Slender face – slim your face
- Eye enlargement – enlarge your eyes
Getting you through the busiest of days
The 3,580mAh capacity battery in your Sony Xperia L4 will get you through a busy day, and Xperia Adaptive Charging protects the health of the battery so that it has a long life with optimal performance. The phone charges through the symmetrical USB Type-C charging port. The Xperia L4 is also compatible with the UCH32C Fast Charger (sold separately).
