Oppo Reno 5G review
Beautiful and powerful
Our Oppo Reno 5G review takes a closer look at this latest 5G smartphone from this relatively new manufacturer in the UK market. The phone has a fantastic design and a uniquely designed pop-up camera module making this an Oppo phone that is really worth considering for your next phone upgrade.
Sleek and unique
The Oppo Reno 5G has a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 1080x 2340 pixels. As the selfie camera is placed in a unique shark-fin module that slides up, there is no cutout for the sensor. This gives an all-screen experience thanks to the very slim bezels. The phone has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and an 85.5% screen-to-body ratio.

This smartphone has been made with glass and metal which gives the phone a beautifully crafted feel. A surprise element to the design is that the back cover is smooth, there is no camera bump. The Oppo Reno 5G is available in Ocean Green or Jet Black. The phone weighs 215g and measures 9.3 mm. Although that isn’t as light as other phones, the 5G speed and pop-up camera more than makes up for it.

Phone Set Up
The Oppo Reno 5G has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor on board. The phone comes with 256GB of onboard memory and 8GB RAM. This means you get a smartphone that can handle any task, whether you are running multiple apps or mobile gaming.
Even though the phone has a large onboard memory, you still get a microSD card slot which can be used with cards of up to 256GB.
In-screen fingerprint sensor
The Oppo Reno 5G has plenty of technology on board and for the fingerprint sensor, it uses the latest innovation. The fingerprint sensor is placed under the phone display which is much more accurate and quicker for unlocking the phone.
The Oppo Reno 5g has Android 9 on board and this comes with lots of familiar apps right out of the box. Top Android apps including Chrome, Maps, and YouTube are pre-loaded and you can choose from a huge selection on Google Play.
Oppo has added their own ColourOS 6 UX which works with the Android system for excellent user experience. There are a number of features that have been created to help improve performance and efficiency
Some of the features of ColourOS 6 include:
- App Cloning - you can create more than one copy of your apps which allows you to access different accounts on the same applications from your phone
- App Drawer - rather than sticking to a series of home screens with different apps spread across them, the Oppo Reno 5G uses an App Drawer. This is a searchable window that can be slid up on any screen
- Drop down settings - the standard basic settings icons get a new look, a redesign sees bigger tiles for finding the right options when you slide down from the top
One of the big selling points of this phone is the 5G connectivity. The Oppo Reno 5G is ready for the 5G rollout. Although this may not be in your current city, the 5G network will be increasing throughout the year.

Camera & Video
Triple rear camera
The Oppo Reno 5G has a triple rear camera, this is made up of:
- 48MP main camera
- 13MP telephoto lens
- 8MP ultra-wide camera
These camera lenses work together to capture amazing photos in any situation. The 48MP camera makes sure you get lots of detail in the shot. The clarity of these images means you can take a shot of a landscape and zoom in to a particular part without losing detail. Optical image stabilisation ensures blur-free shots and the telephoto lens gives excellent zoom performance without losing clarity. The telephoto lens is constructed with glass elements and a prism lens to provide Hybrid Zoom which is impressive.
The ultra-wide lens takes in much more of your surroundings making it perfect for group photos or capturing landscapes. AI technology will adjust the settings of the lenses depending on the subject detected in the shot.
Shooting modes include:
- Google Lens
- Night Mode
Shark-fin pop-up selfie lens
There is a 16-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 aperture for taking selfies. The camera is hidden away in a module that will pop-up when you choose the selfie camera option. Pop-up camera lenses have been the trend lately with lots of manufacturers moving this way with their camera designs. Oppo is the first one to go for a shark-fin design.
There are plenty of shooting modes and editing options to make sure you are happy with the final image before posting it on social media. The LED flash provides ample lighting for low light photos and you can capture video with the selfie camera at 30fps and 1080p resolution.
The Oppo Reno 5G has an impressive 4,065mAh battery with Flash Charge. The included 20W Type-C fast charger can deliver a charge in super-quick time. Whatever you are doing, whether its gaming or browsing, the Oppo Reno 5G has the battery capacity to keep going.
