Oppo AX7 review
HDR selfies and a massive battery
In our Oppo AX7 review we find a mobile phone that offers HDR selfies, resulting in selfies that are well exposed, even when there is a strong backlight. With a massive battery, this Oppo phone is great deal for those in the just-above-budget market, with prices starting from £179.99, handset only.
The Oppo AX7 takes on the looks of the most modern smartphones with a 6.2” Waterdrop Screen. The Waterdrop camera notch takes the minimal amount of screen away, resulting in an 88.4% screen-to-body ratio.

The HD+ resolution of 1,520x 720 pixels gives good detail and the visuals are easier to enjoy with an anti-reflective coating delivering an overall screen brightness improvement of 35%.
Corning Gorilla Glass (version 3) protects the display from scratches and there is a 3D heat-curved and textured glass back, which gives a true premium look and feel. The polished frame is 8.1mm thick and the phone is lightweight at 158g.
Oppo is producing one colour called Glaze Blue. The design includes Glaring Gold which adds highlights to components such as the rear camera module and flash. As the name suggests, these highlights are as bright and reflective as they can be.
The Oppo AX7 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 1.8GHz octa-core processor with 4GB RAM. The performance offered is impressive compared to the price of the phone, so this is a big plus point for this smartphone.

The fingerprint sensor can be used to secure the phone from unauthorised use. The sensor stands out a little more that on other phones with an oval shape that really catches the eye.
The Oppo AX7 runs on Google’s Android 8.1 operating system but this has been tinkered with by Oppo. Oppo adds its ColorOS 5.2 user interface, which makes the experience a little smarter and more efficient.

A few of the features and apps of ColorOS 5.2 include:
- Smart Bar – this makes multitasking easier with quick access to apps and tools
- Music on Display – visual elements make enjoying music a more immersive experience
- Smart Scan – this is a translation tool that uses the camera
- Smart Driving – this takes away the distractions of incoming calls and text messages
- Game Space – an app/hub that puts all your games in one place
- Google Lens – get information on products, landmarks, and places that you see
Camera & Video
The 16MP front camera has an HDR Mode and this aids clearer selfies under backlit conditions. The large aperture of the lens draws in more light and the wide-angle lens takes care of group selfies.
The Oppo AX7 has a dual rear camera and this consists of a 13MP lens and a 2MP lens. These lenses work in AI Beauty to produce studio-grade portraits with bokeh effects (blurred backgrounds).
Video recording results in vivid and fluent playback, thanks to multi-frame image stabilisation. You can also make videos more interesting with pulsation effects and close-ups. Finally, you can add AR Stickers to your portraits or their background.
Photos can be backed up in OPPO Cloud, an online service that is similar to the one offered in Google Photos.
One of the big bonuses in choosing the Oppo AX7 is the big 4,230mAh battery. Working in conjunction with AI Battery Management, which freezes apps that are inactive but open in the background, you might be able to get up to two days power, with moderate use.

The phone can offer up to 27 hours talk time and the battery efficiently dissipates heat through a magnesium alloy component. This is vital because it gets rid of excess heat when running processor heaving tasks such as gaming.
