Nokia 8 Sirocco review
Beautiful and premium
These two words really sum up what we found during our Nokia 8 Sirocco review. This Nokia phone simply looks great and there are loads of premium features (and hardware) to explore.
It will cost you around the same amount as a Samsung Galaxy S9 on contract. This means that we are clearly looking at the best that Nokia has to offer and it’s a genuine alternative that won’t disappoint.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco doesn’t go down the aluminium route and instead it is made from one piece of stainless steel. Stainless steel is harder than aluminium, so this phone is less likely to pick up dents and scratches and it is less likely to warp.

These tough structural characteristics are mirrored on the front, where 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 has been used. This curves over at the edges to meet the stainless steel body. The phone also gets IP67 certification, so you will not need to live in fear of rain or splashes.
Display and processor performance
The 5.5” display delivers a real wow-effect with its 2K resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). This is very fine and you will only find it on the very best mobile phones.
New: Nokia 7 Plus review
Inside, the Nokia 8 Sirocco has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core 2.36GHz processor with 6GB RAM. This is big news because the performance is as fast as lightening and no task will ever be too taxing.
Phone Set Up
The Nokia 8 Sirocco has a fingerprint sensor for security and this is positioned on the back. There is a very large internal memory of 128GB, so you can transfer over your old content and still have loads of room for new.
Android 8.0 Oreo
The Nokia 8 Sirocco has the Android Oreo operating system but the set up of this is called Android One. Android One is a curated edition of Oreo and this means that you get a carefully selected set of pre-loaded apps and no bloatware. This is one reason why the performance of this phone is so good.

Android One brings with it gauranteed operating system upgrades for two years and regular security updates. You also get the Google Photos app and this gives you unlimited online (cloud) storage.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco plays back unmuffled audio through its bottom-ported single speaker and Smart Amp. In the box, you will find a pair of USB Type-C earphones and there is a 3.5mm audio adapter, just in case you want to use headphones that you already own.
Camera & Video
The dual camera on the Nokia 8 Sirocco comprises of a 12MP wide angle lens and a 13MP telephoto lens. This gives you 2x optical zoom and access to the Live Bokeh mode, which lets you blur the background or foreground.
You can capture a Bothie using the main camera and the 5MP selfie camera. The results are shown in either a picture-in-picture format or a split screen format. If you like the idea of a Bothie, then you will be pleased to know that you can also record Bothie videos.
Nokia Spatial Audio integrates three microphones and can record sounds at up to 132 decibels, which is ideal for music concerts. The audio recording options are further extended with 360o surround sound recording. If you which, you can record just the sound in front of you and cut out any unwanted noise from behind.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco has a well-sized battery and with the USB Type-C charger, you can bring the phone up to 50% charge in just 30 minutes. Although not included, you can wirelessly charge the phone if you have, or buy, a Qi wireless charger.
