The display supports HDR10 content and this produces richer colours and sharper detail. The display is fixed onto a dual-tone anodised metal frame that is strong and durable. The dual-tone colour options that you can choose from including Iron/Steel, Steel/Copper, and Blue/Silver, all of which look superb.
New: Honor 7S review
The phone has a pretty average thickness and weight at 7.9mm and 180g, respectively. There is a single speaker with Smart Amp, which produces a good amount of loudness. The phone has an AI-powered Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chip with 4GB RAM. This gives a fast and responsive experience covering all your needs, from gaming to web browsing and from watching videos to listening to a podcast.

Phone Set Up
The Nokia 8.1 has a healthy amount of memory at 64GB, so there is plenty of space to move your favourite memories, games, and apps onto. The best news is that there is a microSD card slot that supports cards with a value of up to 400GB. This would let you store an almost infinite amount of photos and videos on the expandable memory.
We see a traditional fingerprint sensor placed on the back of the phone underneath the camera lens. The position feels natural and there really isn’t a delay between resting your finger on the sensor and the phone unlocking.
The Nokia 8.1 runs on the Android 9 Pie operating system and if you haven’t used this version of Android before, then you are in for a treat. Some of the new OS enhancements include:
- Adaptive Brightness – Android Pie learns your screen brightness preferences under different light so you can forget that brightness slider in the notifications drop-down menu.
- Intuitive UI – Gestures let you drop the virtual buttons and quickly carry out tasks such as switching between apps.
- Adaptive Battery – The battery life is enhanced by prioritising power to the apps you use while restricting it on the apps you don’t use often.
- Adaptive Interface – The OS predicts what you are about to do next and adapts automatically to scenarios such as you daily commute.
- Slices – This feature shows you parts of an app when you type into Google Search, so you can get things done quicker.
The OS is the Android One version of Pie and this means that you get a curated portfolio of pre-loaded apps, which saves memory and improves speed. Pre-loaded apps include Maps, Chrome, and Google Photos, which offers unlimited high-quality photo storage. You will also enjoy regular security updates and software upgrades for the next two years.
Camera & Video
Dual Camera with ZEISS Optics
The Nokia 8.1 has a dual 12MP + 13MP camera and this is paired up with ZEISS Optics. ZEISS Optics provide a super-sensitive sensor that captures high-end image quality. AI-powered imaging software lets you add studio-style lighting effects and apply a live bokeh to blur backgrounds.

The 20MP selfie camera uses Adaptive Sensor Technology to combine four pixels into one for low light photography. This means that day shots are detailed while night shots have less interference.
With the front and back cameras, you take bothie photos and videos, while Dual-Sight live streams can include 3D personas, masks, and filters. Further camera features include Animated Emoji, Nokia OZO surround sound capture, and Google Lens and Motion Photos that let you explore the world around you and shoot super smooth video.
We have previously mentioned that the 3,500mAh battery benefits from the Adaptive Battery feature and this means that you should get two days battery life. When it comes to recharging, there is an 18W fast charger, which is safe yet incredibly powerful.
