Motorola Moto G7 review
Expansive display / Extensive camera apps
Our Motorola Moto G7 review reveals a mobile phone with a wide display and a camera with a bucket load of features. The Moto G7 is a slightly cheaper option to the Moto G7 Plus, but there are few differences, so go for this model if it fits your budget better.
Cinematic display with a teardrop notch
The Moto G7 gives that wow-factor through its 6.2” Max Vision FHD+ display. This display is especially wide (19:9 screen-aspect-ratio) and has the right resolution for the job (2270x 1080 / 403 pixels per inch).
Keep up to Date
Fill in the form and be the first to know when the Motorola Moto G7 is released.
Almost all of the front face of the phone is display (82%), and there is a small central teardrop notch for the camera. Both front and back are made from toughened Corning Gorilla Glass, and the body has a smooth and palm-pleasing 3D contour.
You can take your pick between Clear White or Ceramic Black. The weight and thickness are pretty typical at 172g and 8mm.
Designed with your everyday needs in mind
The Motorola Moto G7 is ready for anything with its scratch-resistant surface. It also has a water-repellent nano-coating (P2i) on the interior and exterior, making it rain (light), sweat, and splash proof.

There is enough power inside to take on any task, thanks to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 1.8GHz octa-core processor with 4GB RAM. This is 50% faster than the previous generation and can handle anything for 3D gaming to video editing.

Unlock with a glance
You can take your pick of Face Unlock or fingerprint security. If you go down the fingerprint route, then the sensor is nicely hidden away in the ‘M’ logo on the back.
Transfer your content
There is plenty of room on the Motorola Moto G7 for your content. The 64GB internal memory will be plenty for most, but there is an up to 512GB memory card slot, for those who need it.
When Pie meets Moto
The Moto G7 has the Android 9 Pie operating system, and this comes with goodies like the Google Assistant. One Button Navigation takes a few minutes to get used to but is well worth the effort. You will also enjoy the ability to reply to notifications on the notification screen.
Motorola gives this phone Moto-uniqueness with clever shortcuts, gestures, and display features. Gestures include:
- Pick up to Wake
- Lift to Unlock
- Chop for Flash-light
- Swipe to Shrink
- Flip for Do Not Disturb
- Approach to show Notifications
There is an Attentive Display feature, and this is a godsend when it comes to reading articles or news stories. If you love your media, then Dolby Audio gives you preset modes for music, speech, gaming, and movies.
Camera & Video
Depth effects and High Res Zoom
The Motorola Moto G7 doesn’t quite have the same resolution as the camera on the Moto G7 Plus, but there isn’t a great deal of difference. If you’re sticking to a budget, you won’t be disappointed because both phones have the same camera tools and features.

The 12MP + 5MP dual camera allows you to add depth effects to portraits and outdoor scenes, namely blurred backgrounds. There is a Photo Assistant with AI-powered software to optimise photos and carry out intelligent actions such as triggering the shutter only when everyone smiles in a group photo.
High Res Zoom is the best camera feature with software algorithms restoring the clarity of an image that is usually lost through using a digital zoom. This is a big deal, just zoom in on your existing smartphone camera, and you will see just how much clarity and detail is lost.
From Spot Colour to Hyperlapse
Here is where your creativity meets the Motorola Moto G7 camera app. Here are just a few of the photography tools that you can use to capture and edit photos:
- Spot Colour – turn a photo black and white, while retaining just one colour
- Cinemagraph - freeze the frame while one object or person continues to move
- Timelapse - speed up the action to 4x, 8x, 16x, or 32x speed
- Hyperlapse - shoot time-lapse video while you are moving
- 8x digital zoom
- Auto Smile Capture
- All in Focus
- 4K video
- Slow Motion Video
- YouTube Live
- Google Lens – get info on objects, landmarks, and foreign text
- Google Photos – store unlimited high-quality photos and videos in the Cloud
Low-light selfie camera
The 8MP low-light selfie camera is aided by a new screen flash that will illuminate your face automatically. The selfie camera has some of the features of the main camera and a few Selfie-dedicated features:
- Auto Smile Capture
- Group Selfie
- Spot Colour
- Face Beauty
- FHD Video Recording
- Slow Motion Video
Get hours for minutes with TurboPower
The TurboPower charger lets you get hours of use from minutes of charge. This can be as much as 8 hours use from 15 minutes charge. The charger isn’t quite as fast as the charger supplied with the Moto G7 Plus, but its speed is still pretty remarkable.
The 15W TurboPower charger has a USB-C connection, so there is no right or wrong way up when plugging it into the phone. The Motorola Moto G7 has a 3,000mAh battery, which is the same capacity as the Plus model.
