Huawei Y6 (2019) review
Selfie Toning Flash
Our Huawei Y6 (2019) review focuses on a smartphone that is extremely affordable at from £9.50 per month on a two-year contract or from £125 handset only. Even though this phone is very inexpensive, it still has features to die for. In our review, we explore these features including a Selfie Toning Flash, Face Unlock, and SuperSound.
6” Dewdrop display
The Huawei Y6 (2019) has an ample 6.09” Dewdrop HD+ display. This well-sized display is great for gaming and streaming content, with its fine resolution of 1,560x 720 pixels. There is an 87% screen-to-body ratio, giving it a modern look.
This Huawei phone is TUV Rheinland certified and this means that it can block out harmful blue light. The visual experience is powered by a fast 12nm 2GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM.

Unique colours and textures
Standout colours and textures are a big part of the appeal of the Huawei Y6 (2019). The three options to choose from include:
- Midnight Black – this is your classic option
- Sapphire Blue – here reflective particles diffract light and colour to shine
- Amber Brown – this colour has a fingerprint-resistant stitched faux leather finish
In all cases, the phone is 8mm thick and weighs 150g. This is pretty light for a modern phone with a large display.
Phone Set Up
The Huawei Y6 (2019) has a healthy 32GB memory and an up to 512GB memory card slot. There is plenty enough room to move your existing content over and you can use the Huawei Share feature to make this task as easy as possible.
The phone has a built-in Tips App to help you get the most out of it. Initial set up will include adding a fingerprint and this can be used to access private content in your Safe or to lock certain apps.
Face Unlock is also offered and it can now work in low-light conditions, with increased screen brightness illuminating your face. To unlock the phone with your face, you need only to raise the phone and look at it.
SuperSound with Histen 5.0
Huawei SuperSound brings Histen 5.0 technology and Party Mode. The headline here is that you will enjoy an extra 6db of sound (compared to phones with only SuperSound) and there is a strengthened bass effect.
There is a built-in FM radio for those who have a favourite radio station. The good news is that you can hear your preferred radio station with or without wearing your earbuds.

Android and EMUI
The Huawei Y6 (2019) uses the Android 9.0 Pie operating system, so owners get to use some of the best Google apps. These include the Google Assistant, Google Maps, and YouTube. The EMUI 9.0 user interface ensures the experience is simple, smart, and intuitive.
Features include full-screen gesture navigation, a Virus Scanner, Notepad, and Audio Notes. With App Twin, you can also have two versions of selected apps running, which is ideal if you have two accounts, such as a work and private account. Supported apps include WeChat, Facebook, Snapchat, LINE, and QQ Messenger.
Camera & Video
A capable low-light camera
The Huawei Y6 (2019) has a 13MP camera with a wider aperture that lets in 50% more light. This is just what you need for low-light situations. If you love being creative with your smartphone photography, then Wide Aperture Mode with blurred backgrounds, Light Painting, Time-Lapse, and Moving Pictures will all be shooting modes that you will make regular use of.

Hidden Selfie Toning Flash
The 8MP selfie camera has a Hidden Selfie Toning Flash 2.0 screen, for light-assisted photography. With this flash, you will capture accurate portraits with their true natural colour, even in low-light.
The Perfect Selfie Mode lets you adjust and save personal beauty parameters. You can blur the background of your selfies or completely change the background, with the AR Lens that also lets you get creative with stickers.
Intelligent battery optimisation
The 3,020mAh battery offers very good usage times and it is paired up with an intelligent battery optimisation feature. For extreme usage, you can turn on Power Saving and Ultra Power Saving modes.
