Huawei P10 review
Smartphone photography strides forward again
After reading our Huawei P10 review you will be left in doubt that smartphone photography strides forward again. After selling 10 million Huawei P9 phones, Huawei for a second time co-engineers a phone with Leica, the German premium-segment camera manufacturer.
New: Moto G5 review
The Huawei P10 is available now in the UK.
The Huawei P10 is rather unique in that there is a choice of finishes. Accompanying sandblast and high gloss, we find the first hyper diamond cut finishing on a smartphone. This technique adds strength and colour, while heightening brightness.

The 6.98mm ultra slim and lightweight body (145g), has dual cameras sitting flush with the back cover. The concave power button removes the risk of accidental depressions and initially three colours will be on offer; Graphite Black, Prestige Gold and Mystic Silver.
For most, the 5.1” Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display will be perfectly sized, with this resolution breaking down to 432 pixels per inch.

Fingerprint security and getting started
The first thing that we noted was that the fingerprint sensor has moved from the back. It is now hidden underneath the front screen glass, making navigation easier with increased touch speed.
The fingerprint sensor can be used to unlock the Huawei P10, as well as protecting your Safe or apps with an App Lock. The fingerprint sensor can also be used to launch the assistant or used to scroll through recently used apps.
While getting started with the Huawei P10, you will be able to transfer content from an old smartphone onto the generous 64GB internal memory.
The performance really is top end and Huawei has been pretty ingenious in way that it has gone about achieving this. The ultra fast 2.4GHz Kirin 960 octa-core processor with 4GB RAM, is paired up with machine learning and Ultra Memory technology. Ultra Memory allocates, compresses and recycles memory, so that apps load faster than ever, while reserving memory for the apps you use most.
Huawei has also improved the Wi-Fi experience on the P10 with 2x2 MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) for a faster and more stable connection, with improved coverage and wall penetration.
Apps and software
The Huawei P10 runs the Android 7.0 Nougat OS and this is given a unique edge, with Huawei’s EMUI 5.1 user interface. Noteworthy features includes Twin Apps, where you can create a second icon for Facebook or WhatsApp, allowing you to be logged into two different accounts at the same time.
The P10 also offers Scrolling Screenshots, a Screen Recorder, Split Screen Apps, Eye Comfort Mode, Virus Scan, One Handed Mode and Gloves Mode.
Camera & Video
Leica Dual Camera 2.0
The Leica Dual Camera comprises of a 20MP monochrome camera sitting next to a 12MP RGB (Red,Green, Blue) camera. These work together to capture artistic portraits in the Leica style.
The Huawei P10 really is a portrait studio in your pocket, with precise 3D facial detection, natural portrait enhancements and dynamic illumination:
- 3D facial detection - This technology identifies personal features with more accuracy.
- Natural portrait enhancements - The P10’s imaging algorithm adds studio-like enhancements with eyes receiving special attention. Optical technology brings out their innate colour and brightness.
- Dynamic illumination - A light-sensing algorithm adjusts the shutter speed, AWB and adds artistic glow automatically.
The Leica Dual Camera can be used to capture artistic portraits with a natural bokeh effect. The unique depth-of-field technology makes portraits clear, sharper and more beautiful.
Other camera features includes a 2x hybrid zoom, RAW image capture, 4-in-1 hybrid autofocus with instantaneous depth of field changes, 4K video recording, Slow Motion recording and Time Lapse recording.
Huawei has also pre loaded its Highlights software, which generates a video of your best moments and these can be based on location, time or shooting mode, with various video templates to choose from.
Leica 8MP Selfie Cam
The new Leica 8MP Selfie Cam captures twice as much light as the one used on the Huawei P9. One rather handy feature of the Selfie Cam is that it senses if others join the frame for a group selfie and it automatically switches to a wide angle view.

Perfect Selfie Mode is pretty handy too, enabling you to save beautification preferences for your own portraits.
