Huawei P Smart review
Dual camera, FullView fun at an unbeatable price
Vodafone UK gets an exclusive until February 28th 2018 with the Huawei P Smart and it is priced as £229 on pay as you go, while keeping line rentals low for those who prefer a contract deal.
The 5.65” FullView Display stretches from edge-to-edge, making the phone slimmer and really comfortable to hold. There is also very little phone above or below the display, with a 76% screen to body ratio.

The display is set out in the longer 18:9 screen aspect ratio and with FHD+ resolution (2160 x 1080 pixels), you get extra rows of pixels that let you see more of a webpage or app, without scrolling.
If an app hasn’t been designed for FHD+ resolution, then the Huawei P Smart up-scales them so that they still fill all of the display area.
The Huawei P Smart may not cost much but it still gets a premium metallic aluminium body and a curved 2.5D glass front. This combination of materials has kept the phone light and slim at 143g and 7.45mm respectively.

There aren’t many phones that look better and the recessed fingerprint sensor and the dual camera bumps all add a little character. This Huawei phone is available in black, blue and golden.
Phone Set Up
The Huawei P Smart will let you set up fingerprint security and authentication is very fast at 0.3 seconds. The latest fingerprint technology is secure and accurate with only a 1 in 50,000 false acceptance rate and only a 2% false rejection rate.
There is more functionality here though and the fingerprint sensor can be used to navigate, take photos, silence the alarm clock and to pull down notifications.
The Huawei P Smart has a healthy 32GB internal memory for transferring your existing content onto. Should you need more, then you can buy a microSD memory card with any value up to 256GB.
The Huawei P Smart runs Huawei’s EMUI 8.0 user interface, which is based on Google’s Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. Combined with Huawei’s Kirin 659 AI (artifici1al intelligence) 2.36GHz octa-core processor with 3GB RAM, and you get a responsive and more immersive experience.

The highlights of the user interface, OS and AI chip include:
- Machine learning - With intelligent perception the phone learns your usage habits and schedules resources on the CPU in advance, for blazing fast app performance
- i5 mini-core co-processor - Low power processor for counting steps, distance and GPS
- One touch Split Screen - With one touch you can run two apps side-by-side
- Dual Bluetooth - You can connect the phone to your car at the same time as a Bluetooth headset
- One-handed UI - You can shrink the screen with one swipe
The Huawei P Smart also has a nicely positioned bottom ported speaker, Tips app and a Phone Manager that lets you scan for viruses. You can also carry out other intuitive actions, such as highlighting a postcode in a message and then jumping straight to Google Maps.
Camera & Video
The Huawei P Smart has a 13MP + 2MP dual camera that can capture shallow depth-of-field bokeh effects (blurred background). You can decide the amount of blur with 16 level dual-shot blurring.
The 8MP selfie camera has a front Portrait Mode and Face Beauty, which recognises gender for tailored skin enhancements and highlights. The shutter can be activated with Gesture Shot, which recognises a wave of the hand.
Long lasting battery
The 3,000mAh battery uses Power Saving Technology 6.0 to maximise power longevity. The tech uses real-time detection for power hungry apps and offers one-key optimisation. The Huawei P Smart will definitely give you a day of power, and maybe two, if your usage isn’t high.
