Huawei Mate 20 Lite review
Four camera and AI everywhere
Our Huawei Mate 20 Lite review finds AI enhancements built into almost every feature, including the camera. Basically, if you want a cutting edge experience for photography or gaming, then you won’t go wrong by choosing this Huawei Phone.
Priced from £18 per month on a 24 month contract, this really is a great deal.
We are getting quite used to seeing phones with full front-filling screens and the Huawei Mate 20 Lite joins the pack. The screen is actually very big at 6.3” and there is a Full HD+ highly-detailed screen resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels).

You can choose between Platinum Gold, Sapphire Blue and Black. The corners are nicely rounded and the dual camera and fingerprint sensor on the back add interesting detail, with their neatly aligned placements.
With a thickness of 7.6mm, the Mate 20 Lite is nice and thin and it isn’t too weighty at 172g.
Phone Set Up
Security and moving your content over
Your first task should be to set up fingerprint security and the sensor will allow you to unlock the phone, as well as drag down the notifications panels or flick through your photo gallery.
If you have photos or other content to bring over from your old phone, then there is a 64GB memory for this. This more than adequate memory will be enough for most, but there is an up to 256GB microSD memory card slot, for those who may need a memory boost in the future.
AI gaming and shopping
The Huawei Mate 20 Lite has a powerful Kirin 710 2.2GHz octa-core processor with 4GB RAM. This processor is power efficient and gives the performance you need for immersive gaming.
The AI optimised gaming experience is supreme with the phone allocating resources dynamically. You even get to enjoy a special Smart Alert system that manages distractions, giving you notifications in way that doesn’t break your gaming flow.
The AI personal shopping assistant lets you take a photo of any product and the assistant will take you to an Amazon listing, so that you can make an online purchase. You will need to download the free Amazon app for this experience.
The Mate 20 Lite runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system and this has been enhanced with Huawei’s EMUI 8.2 user interface.
Camera & Video
Dual selfie camera
The 24MP + 2MP dual selfie cam lets you capture professional looking bokeh blurred backgrounds. Automatic AI beautification with scene recognition improves the results, recognising scenes such as night, blue sky, room, beach and snow.

AI-enhanced HDR gives real time previews for both photos and video. This is a big deal because the tech brings out the detail in both light and dark elements of the image.
If you want to have a little fun, then AI-powered 3D Qmojis that move with your facial movements, expression and voice are great for use on social media.
Dual main camera
The Huawei Mate 20 Lite also has a 20MP + 2MP dual main camera. Optical bokeh is present again along with AI-recognition of 22 categories of objects and scenes. Images are enhanced based on these categories which include dog, cat, food, ancient building and many more.
Further camera features include 16x Slow-Mo (480 frames per second) and an AI photo gallery. The photo gallery uses AI to classify and organise photos. You can search by person, occasion, composition or subject.
The Huawei Mate 20 Lite has a high capacity 3,750mAh battery and this is bigger than that in most other phones. As a bonus, you get to enjoy Quick Charge, which minimises the amount of time your phone will need to be connected to its charger.
