Huawei Mate 10 review
First Kirin AI processor
Our Huawei Mate 10 review takes a look at the first Kirin AI processor and the new Leica Dual Camera. The Huawei Mate 10 is cheaper than the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, with the main difference being that it has an LCD screen, instead of the more impressive OLED screen that we have seen on the Pro.
The Huawei Mate 10 has a 5.9” FullView Display with 2560 x 1440 pixels (499 pixels per inch). The screen has a finer resolution than the Pro but it is in the standard 16:9 aspect ratio, whereas the Pro has moved onto the elongated 18:9 aspect ratio.

The screen does make use of HDR 10 technology in order to bring intense vivid and bright colours, to the viewing experience.
Shaped glass design
The Huawei Mate 10 is made from shaped front and back glass. The phone is offered in Black, Mocha Brown or Champagne Gold and has a 8.2mm thick body and a weight of 186g.
Kirin AI chip
The ‘big deal’ with the Huawei Mate 10 is its Kirin 970 AI 2.36GHz octa-core processor with 4GB RAM. Using AI and NPU (neural-network processing unit), we see 8 CPU cores and 12 GPU cores giving 25x performance at 50x power efficiency.

Phone Set Up
Security and privacy
The Huawei Mate 10 has a fingerprint sensor for security. This can be used to unlock the phone, access the PrivateSpace and use the App Lock feature. If you intend to allow others to use the phone, then you can create separate user spaces for guest users.

If you have content to transfer over from an old Android or iPhone then you can do this automatically by downloading the Phone Clone app onto the old phone. 64GB of memory gets you started and the phone accepts up to 256GB microSD cards, should memory expansion be needed in the future.
The Huawei Mate 10 runs Huawei’s EMUI 8 user interface, which enhances the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. There are plenty of neat little features that make all the difference.
This Huawei phone can support a full desktop experience by connecting the phone to a monitor or projector. You can connect to a wireless (Bluetooth) mouse and keyboard at the same time or you can use the phone as a mobile touch-pad. If you are into gaming, then you can also play these on a bigger screen.
With the Smart Screen feature you can use apps that support multi-column scrolling and with one touch you can enter split screen mode and use two apps side-by-side. Further features include Knuckle Gestures and the option to create an App Twin, if for example you have two Facebook accounts.
On the home screens you can touch and hold an app icon to see quick action shortcuts or you can add these shortcuts as icons to the home screen itself. This is really great because you can put a shortcut to the selfie camera or wide aperture shooting mode right on the home screen, for one tap access.
Finally, Microsoft has added its real-time translator to the mix and this can instantly translate voice, one-to-one conversations, text and images into more than 50 languages.
Camera & Video
Leica Dual Camera
The Huawei Mate 10 has the new Leica Dual Camera and this comprises of a 20MP monochrome lens and a 12MP RGB (red, green, blue) lens. The two ‘big deals’ about this camera are the wide aperture mode that gives you the Leica bokeh effect and AI-powered real-time recognition of different scenes and objects.
These scenes and objects include flowers, plants, blue sky, sunsets, sunrise, text, food, nightscapes, portraits and snow. With this, you can shoot like a pro, with all adjustments made automatically, and without entering a pro mode.

The Huawei Mate 10 has a high capacity 4,000mAh battery and Smart Power Management anticipates your behaviour, to make sure you get the most from this. Huawei SuperCharge gives one day of typical use from a 20 minute charge.
