HTC U12+ review
From Squeeze to a Quad Camera
Our HTC U12+ review reveals the latest innovations from HTC. These include Squeeze actions and a new Quad Camera, along with so much more. If you have been searching for the ultimate smartphone, then search no more.
Quad HD+ display
The 6” Quad HD+ display has ultra thin borders (2mm narrower than before) and has a resolution of 2880 x 1440 pixels. This resolution is incredible and apart from the 4K display used on a Sony phone, it simply can’t be beat.
The Translucent Blue variant of the HTC U12+ is really cool and lets you see the phones inner beauty. It’s a new look for a smartphone and we really like it. However, if it is not to your taste then you can enjoy the Liquid Surface design of the Flame Red or Ceramic Black variants.
Keep up to Date
Fill in the form and be the first to know when the HTC U12+ is released.
It’s not all looks though, this HTC phone is IP68 certified. This means that you don’t need to panic if the phones gets wet in the rain or accidentally splashed.
The HTC U12+ uses the Snapdragon 845 2.8GHz octa-core processor with 6GB RAM. This is top notch, so forget about lag issues or stuttering gameplay.
Phone Set Up
As you would expect from a 2018 flagship phone, the HTC U12+ has Face Unlock, a fingerprint sensor and a healthy 64GB internal memory. If you need to move content over from an old phone, then you can boost the memory further still, through the microSD card slot.

Interacting with the HTC U12+
The HTC U12+ has pressure sensitive buttons and a new touch feedback experience. The intelligent active edge (Edge Sense 2), now knows which hand you are using. It has new gestures, for squeeze, hold and double tap. These perform the following actions:
- Double tap - Activates an adjustable mini screen that puts everything within reach of your thumb. You can set this action to go back or use it as a navigation bar.
- Hold - Keep the screen orientation, even when lying down and also stops the screen from dimming.
- Squeeze - Take a photo, bring up the Edge Launcher or launch the Always On Voice Assistant (Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa).
Edge Sense 2 works with millions of apps letting you enjoy actions such as zooming in on maps or pausing and playing music.
Best audio on speakers and earbuds
The HTC USonic earbuds (in box) provide Active Noise Cancellation and this automatically blocks out external sound. This means that you only hear the music you are playing and not the noise that is surrounding you.

The HTC U12+ also has HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi edition speakers with a separated woofer and tweeter. If music is a key buying factor for you, then this should seal the deal.
Out of the box, you get the Android Oreo operating system. However, HTC has already confirmed that there will be an Android P upgrade roll out, following the launch of Google’s latest update.
Camera & Video
World’s best dual camera
The HTC U12+ now has the highest rated dual camera setup, according to the photography benchmark website, DxOMark, with a score of 103. In fact, this HTC smartphone actually has a quad camera, so there are two lenses on the back and two lenses on the front.

For the main camera, this consists of a 16MP telephoto lens and a 12MP wide angle lens. You will enjoy UltraSpeed Autofocus 2, 2x optical zoom, 10x digital zoom and laser focus, when using this camera.
The selfie camera uses two 8MP lenses. Both the main and front cameras can capture bokeh effects. HDR Boost 2 works to ensure detailed photos are caught in low light and you can have fun with AR Stickers and apply the effects in real time to photos and video.
Video and audio
Once again, you probably won’t be able to find better when it comes to recording video and sound. You can record 4K video at 60 frames per second and get a professional effect with Auto Zoom. Here, one touch results in automated and smooth zooming during video recording.
You can record slow motion video at 240 frames per second at HD quality. Sonic Zoom allows you to focus in on a specific sound and the results of this 3D audio are 60% louder.
Quick Charge 3.0
The 3,500mAh capacity battery is well-rated and can be charged using Quick Charge 3.0 (charger in the box). This allows you to get back to 50% charge in just 30 minutes.
HTC has created a wicked phone here and we applaud the fact that the USonic earbuds and Quick Charge 3 charger are provided in the box.
