HTC Desire 12+ review
Affordable Oreo and Dual Camera
Our HTC Desire 12+ review uncovers a smartphone that has two key attributes that will make it a success. These are of course the Android Oreo OS and a Dual Camera. HTC has said that the phone will be very affordable and it is due to arrive in the UK during May 2018.
The HTC Desire 12+ is the sporty version and there will be a lower-end model called the HTC Desire 12. That phone lacks the dual camera, so it’s pretty clear which model to go for, unless you are on a very, very tight budget.
6” slim display
The HTC Desire 12+ has a large 6” display and with a 18:9 screen aspect ratio, it is tall and thin, making it very easy to hold.
Keep up to Date
Fill in the form and be the first to know when the HTC Desire 12+ is released.
The screen resolution is tailored to this with extra rows of pixels. This gives us a HD+ resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels.
Comparison: Standard HD resolution is 720 x 1280 pixels.
The display is encased in a seamless frame and the sides and back get HTC’s Liquid Surface (highly reflective) paint job. The phone is thin enough at 8.4mm thick and it certainly isn’t heavy at 158g.
The HTC Desire 12+ has a quality Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.8GHz octa-core processor with 3GB RAM. This performs really well and outclasses the processor of its smaller sister.
Comparison: The HTC Desire 12 has a MediaTek 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM
Phone Set Up
The HTC Desire 12+ has a fingerprint sensor (this is lacking on the Desire 12) and this can be used to secure the phone. This has been positioned on the back and using it here feels very natural.

Comparison: The HTC Desire 12 has the Android 7 Nougat OS
Camera & Video
The HTC Desire 12+ has a dual camera with 13MP and 2MP lenses. With these you can capture multiple focal points simultaneously, allowing you to refocus the picture afterwards. You can also capture a very accurate bokeh effect and blur the background.

The camera uses Phase Detection Autofocus to capture blur free results, even when elements of the scene are moving. Further features include:
- Face detection
- Full HD video recording
- Video Pic (capture a picture while recording video)
8MP selfie camera
The 8MP selfie camera has a large f/2.0 aperture that lets in more light, for better low light results. Aiding this is a front LED flash that creates a soft tone for a natural glow. Shooting modes include beauty mode, selfie timer, HDR, face detection and Full HD video recording.
