Honor 20 Pro review
Flagship specs for a mid-range price
In our Honor 20 pro review, we find a phone that rivals any flagship phone on the market, and it puts some of them to shame. The Honor 20 Pro is almost half the price of some premium phones, starting at £549.99 (handset only).
New: Honor 20 Lite review
The Pro is the higher-end version of the Honor 20, which costs from £399. The Pro improves upon the standard model with twice the memory, 3x optical zoom, and a longer lasting battery.
The Honor 20 Pro has a 6.26” All-View Display with Full HD+ resolution (2,340x 1,080 pixels/412 pixels per inch). This is extremely detailed and you would be hard pushed to find a phone with a greater resolution.
Keep up to Date

The display brings the wow-factor with just a 4.5mm ultra-small pinhole for the in-screen camera lens. This looks significantly better than phones that have a large notch cut into the display.
The design of the Honor 20 Pro is exquisite with a glass back that includes a dynamic and reflective holographic design. The subtle pattern is created using Honor’s Triple 3D mesh technology.

You can choose between Phantom Black or Phantom Blue. The aluminium frame feels high-end and the phone is 8.44mm thick and weighs in at 182g.
The Kirin 980 is the world’s first 7nm smartphone AI chip. Performance is again at the highest level with its 2.6GHz octa-core construction with 8GB RAM. Both performance and energy efficiency are improved compared to the previous chip.

Phone Set Up
Security and a bountiful memory
The Honor 20 Pro has a fingerprint sensor built into the power button on the side of the phone. This is well-placed for waking up the phone and unlocking it with a single tap.
You can transfer content over from your old Android phone or iPhone using the Phone Clone app. There is plenty of memory, with a 256GB capacity.
Surround sound, gaming, and Android OS
With virtual 9.1 surround sound through your headphones, the Honor 20 Pro immerses you in sound from all around and above. With GPU Turbo 3.0 technology on board, games run faster with no lag and deliver a full-frame gaming experience. You can play the latest and most advanced games, such as Into the Dead 2, Fortnite, Subway Surfers, Real Racing 3, and PES2019.
The Android 9 Pie operating system includes many apps such as the Google Assistant, Maps, YouTube, and the Play Store. Honor adds a couple of apps of its own with the Magic UI 2.0, an interface that refines the looks, icons, and theme.
Camera & Video
The camera on the Honor 20 Pro is simply awesome and DxOMark, a photography testing company, ranks the camera in third place of all smartphones. Only the Huawei P30 Pro and the 5G edition of the Samsung Galaxy S10 can better the results. This is fantastic news because both of the two aforementioned phones cost £900 and above.
The quad-lens system includes:
- 48MP main lens - this uses advanced AI Ultra Clarity software with the Dual ISP and Dual NPU
- 16MP super wide angle lens – shoot wider landscapes with a 117-degrees field of view
- 8MP telephoto lens – use an ultra-clear zoom with 3x optical zoom
- 2MP macro lens – shoot small items as close as 4cm
Super Night Mode is another great feature to have and this lets you shoot in any light with a wide aperture. Optical image stabilisation helps by reducing the effect of handshake while the shutter is open for longer to capture more light. This works for photos and videos and a special Moon Shot mode lets you zoom in at 30x digital zoom.

You can shoot 4K quality videos or, at 960 frames per second, you can record slow-motion video at HD (720p) quality.
32MP AI high-definition selfie camera
The Honor 20 Pro is clever with its self-portrait mode, which combines four pixels into one, for brighter and clearer results. AI portrait and beauty modes let you capture shallow depth-of-field bokeh photos with a blurred background. You can also enhance your photos with 3D Portrait Lighting.
The very high-capacity 4,000mAh battery can be charged with the 22.5W HONOR SuperCharge technology. In 30 minutes you can charge to 50% capacity and this greatly reduces the amount of time that your phone spends connected to its charger.
The battery offer up to:
- Video playback – 19 hours
- Music playback – 141 hours
- Phone call – 29 hours
