Apple iPhone 8 review
Glass design and Augmented Reality
The Apple iPhone 8 has arrived and Apple fans will find a new glass design, which is stronger than ever, and amazing Augmented Reality experiences.
The Apple iPhone 8 is made from the most durable glass ever used on a smartphone. The glass forms both the front and back faces and there is a 50% deeper strengthening layer. This layer is reinforced through a laser-welded steel foundation, which is fixed to the aerospace grade 7000 Series aluminium frame.

The machining is so precise that the iPhone 8 has been IP67 certified for water and dust resistance. The aluminium and glass is colour matched with the option to choose either Space Grey, Silver or Gold. The glass has undergone a six layer ink process, which creates a rich depth of colour.
This iPhone weighs in at 148g and is 7.3mm thick. This is minutely heavier and thicker that the iPhone 7.
True Tone display
The Apple iPhone 8 has a 4.7” Retina HD (1334 x 750 pixels / 326 pixels per inch) display with True Tone technology. The technology uses a wide colour gamut and this delivers industry-best colour accuracy.
Special light sensing technology, self adjusts the white balance so that it matches itself to the light surrounding the user. The result is that everything on the screen looks more natural, which in turn reduces eyestrain.
The Apple iPhone 8’s display is also great for viewing by a group of friends. Dual domain pixels create one of the widest viewing angles around.
Phone Set Up
Touch ID and transferring content
The Touch ID fingerprint sensor is built into the home key and offers exceptional levels of security. Along with unlocking the iPhone 8, Touch ID can be used with Apple Pay, for purchasing apps or for paying for goods and services in retail stores.

Later in 2017, Touch ID will also allow you to pay or receive money from friends, directly through the Messages app.
The Apple iPhone 8 is available in two variants; one with 64GB of memory and the other with 256GB of memory. Old smartphone content can be transferred over onto this memory and Apple offer iCloud storage as well.
The Apple iPhone 8 has stereo speakers that now produce a deeper bass. Overall, sound loudness is up by 25%. EarPods are supplied in the box, along with a Lightning Connector to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, for those who already have a favourite pair of headphones.
The Apple iPhone 8 has been designed for running Augmented Reality games and apps. Combining the real world with the imagined, AR can be used to digitally redesign a home or for seeing how tattoos may look on the owner’s body.
The AR experience is supreme because of the technology inside the iPhone 8. The A11 Bionic chip is the smartest and most powerful chip ever in a smartphone. The A11 Bionic chip has two performance cores that are up to 25% faster and four efficiency cores that are up to 70% faster (compared to the A10 Fusion chip).
The Neural Engine has 4.3 billion transistors that can perform 600 billion operations per second. This chip is paired up with a three-core GPU, which is 30% faster than before.
iOS 11 once again brings Siri to Apple fans, but this time, Siri has a new and more expressive voice. With iOS 11 Siri can now make language translations. iOS 11 is packed with pre-loaded apps. Just a few of these are Messages, Health, Safari, iBooks, News, Reminders, Maps and Photos.
Camera & Video
12MP wide angle camera
The Apple iPhone 8 has a 12MP camera with a wide angle lens. The camera has a faster and larger sensor, powered by the A11 Bionic chip. An Apple designed Image Signal Processor (ISP) optimises photos before they are taken, by detecting things in the scene, such as motion, people and the lighting conditions.

Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) works for both photos and videos and the camera has better HDR and faster autofocus. The Quad LED True Tone Flash now has Slow Sync.
Slow Sync slows the shutter speed and produces a short strobe pulse. By doing this, the iPhone 8 captures a brighter foreground subject, along with a well exposed background. The Quad LED flash also creates an illumination that is 40% more uniform.
The iPhone 8’s camera brings many other features such as 5x digital zoom, playback zoom and time-lapse photography. 4K video can be recorded at 60 frames per second, while Slo-mo video can be capture at 240 frames per second, at 1080p quality.
Portraits can be captured through the 7MP FaceTime HD camera, which has its own Retina Flash.
Photo and video compression
The Apple iPhone 8 has next gen HEIF photo compression technology and HEVC video compression. These technologies save images at the same quality but with half of the file size. This is great for saving high quality videos and photos, because these used to take up great chunks of memory.
Same battery life
The Apple iPhone 8 has the same battery life as the iPhone 7. This gives the iPhone 8 up to 14 hours of talk time or up to 13 hours of video playback, 40 hours of music playback or up to 12 hours of internet use.
The iPhone 8 is fast charge capable (fast charger required), giving 50% charge in just 30 minutes. The iPhone 8 also has wireless charging support and will work with any Qi wireless charging mat.
The wireless charging experience can upgraded in 2018, with the release of the Apple AirPower mat. The AirPower mat will charge multiple Apple devices at once, including an Apple Watch and AirPods.
