IFA has lost some of its glitz and glam this month, with Samsung pushing its announcement of the Note5 and S6 Edge+ forward to leave the Berlin-based event without a flashy phablet launch. However, it seems that Sony could be here to save the day, after it teased an announcement for the 2nd of September.
The event is the ideal pre-cursor to IFA, which begins on the 4th of September, and is likely to show off a brand new Xperia Z handset, which would likely be the Z5 and maybe even the Z5 Compact.
Sony posted quite a substantial teaser for a new phone on Twitter earlier on this week, selling the camera on the new device which will apparently pack ‘greater focus’.

Considering Sony’s track record with its photography devices, we fully expect this to be a very worthwhile improvement, and one which is likely to be taking place on the Xperia Z5. Other Sony smartphones have also been performing well on the camera front, with the likes of the Xperia M5 also impressing with its lenses.
The Z3+ was also a strong performer with its camera, so it seems very likely that Sony would be working off its already respected pedigree this time around as well. Either way we won’t have to wait long to find out what’s on offer, with the announcement confirmed for September 2nd.
Sony has had its fair share of troubles in recent times, with delayed smartphone launches running besides constant rumours of the Sony mobile company folding as a whole following poor performance compared to the likes of Apple and Sony. When released compare Xperia Z5 prices here
However, Sony has rebuffed these rumours with this upcoming launch, which should offer users a brand new Xperia smartphone experience.
Rumoured Z5 specs include a brand new Snapdragon chipset, 5.2” QHD display, octa-core processor, 64GB internal storage and 4GB RAM. It’s also apparent from the Twitter post from the Japanese company that the 20.7 megapixel camera is set for an improvement.
However, it’s unlikely that we’ll be seeing any extra megapixels crammed into the phone’s lenses, with software updates much more likely to make more of an impact.
If Sony does announce the Xperia Z5 on September 2nd, it’s likely that the phone will be on show to anyone at IFA. But we can expect a retail launch several weeks after the event, most likely ahead of October.
Sony could stagger its launches by market as well, so don’t be surprised to see the phone go on sale in Asia before it hits the UK.
