YO Home Sperm Test

The Yo Home Sperm Test has been designed to accurately test motile sperm and only active swimmers are counted. The system includes a smartphone app and a detachable YO Clip, which is effectively a mini microphone.

YO uses your smartphone’s camera light and video, along with the Yo Clip, which includes two test strips. In total, these cost approximately £40.

Yo Home Sperm Test is compatible with the Apple iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone SE and iPhone 7. It is also compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7, along with many other popular smartphones.

How the sperm test works

Anyone can use the home sperm test because it is fully automatic and it reports the results without any human interpretation. The Yo Home Sperm Test app provides the user with step-by-step written and animated instructions.

The testing process is pretty simple and includes adding a liquefying powder to the sperm sample, which then needs to rest for 10 minutes before testing. During this time, the app offers a light-hearted Sperm Trivia Challenge that will occupy you while the 10 minute countdown timer runs.

Next, the sperm sample is added to the test strip, which then inserts into the YO Clip, which in turn plugs onto the top of the smartphone. The app then captures a 40 second video of the sperm, so that you can later watch your swimmers in action and save the video.

It takes roughly two minutes for the app to analyse the results, which will be indicated as low or normal. These two results are essentially either less or more than six million sperm per millilitre.

The Yo Clip will make an automated quality check to make sure that everything is set up right, before making an analysis. Your data is then secured, making the system private and confidential.

Medical Electronics Systems

The YO Home Sperm Test has been developed by Medical Electronic Systems, who have been a global leader in rapid and automated semen testing, for more than 20 years.
