We reported last month on the very first details of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active being leaked, and it seems we were on the right track, after further pictures leaked this week.
Of course, as with all leaks, you should take your standard issue pinch of salt with all information until Samsung itself confirms the details.
Those familiar with the Samsung S Active line-up will know what this latest phone is all about, but for those who don’t it’s pretty simple – it’s a tougher version of the S6.
This is instantly recognisable from the recently leaked pictures of the rumoured device, which showcases a much more solid and durable build compared to the standard S6. This does of course result in a less desirable look, but will ensure that your phone survives a fair few drops.
Both sides of the phone look markedly different to the S6, with the single physical button being replaced by three – dashing hopes of the fingerprint scanner being transferred onto this version of the Samsung phone.
The camera lens and heart rate monitor do look like they’re staying put however, so at least we aren’t losing too many features with the S6 Active.
As always, Samsung is sure to showcase some kind of water and dust protection with the device – possibly up to an IP68 rating, which would mean that you can submerge the phone down to one metre for half an hour.
Specs are up in the air for now, but as mentioned before, some of them leaked last month, and it looks like we could be getting a very powerful set of them to play with.
A 5.1” QHD Super AMOLED display offers a great view which is equal to that on the standard S6, whilst the very same Exynos 7420 chipset is also included for good measure.
Camera fans have a 16 megapixel rear lens and a 5 megapixel front facing snapper to play with, once again equal to those on the standard S6.
The last detail that’s been leaked is that of the battery – which is apparently set to be sized at 3500mAh, making it last much longer than you’d expect from many flagship smartphones on today’s market.
A launch date for the S6 Active is still to be decided, but considering that leaks have begun to pop up, we reckon that we could be seeing it in stores later on in the summer, possibly at the end of June.
Pricing details are also pretty sketchy for now, but contract deals shouldn’t be climbing above the £40/month mark as long as you don’t go overboard with the tariff.
