We all know something new is heading our way from Sony and rumours as well as speculation about the name has everyone talking about it. The phone is expected to be revealed at IFA Berlin 2013 and as we still have a little time before that we can expect many more leaked images and speculation about this smartphone.
The latest snippet comes from Sony themselves in the form of a teaser on their Facebook page showing a power button of the suspected latest addition to the Xperia range. Simply saying "It's the smartphone everyone's been talking about - not long now". With the hashtag #bestofsony it looks like the company is toting this latest Xperia handset to beat the spots off the rest of the range. The image doesn’t really give that much away and Sony has remained tightlipped apart from this little teaser image. So what do we know so far?
Even the name has been causing some confusion with the initial rumours pointing to the Sony Honami which could have just been a code name for development or the smartphones name in a specific market, although this is still being used by some sites so it’s a possibility. The next name to be bandied about was the Xperia i1 which makes more sense than the initial name and now a couple of leaks on various websites have showed the phone as the Sony Xperia Z1 which follows suit on from the Xperia Z.
So for now we will stick with the Xperia Z1 moniker, but who knows that could change. The specifications that have been revealed so far include a 5-inch HD screen (as seen on the current Sony Xperia Z) with a possibility of the Triluminous technology that is featured on the Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
The Sony Xperia Z1 camera is expected to be an impressive 20-megapixel snapper with a 1/2.3-inch sensor G lens and there is speculation that this may be the first smartphone to record video in 4k (4000 x 2000).
The operating system hasn't really popped up on the radar as yet but a safe bet would be that the Xperia Z1 will be packing the Android 4.2.2 OS at launch.
Other features are expected to include 4G connectivity as well as NFC and even a Walkman chip which is something music fans will appreciate. There has been no mention of water resistance on this model, but as Sony has made this a feature of the Xperia range it is likely to be included.
So whether the latest Xperia phone will be the i1, Honami or Z1 will remain to be seen and as we expect confirmation at IFA 2013 we don't have too long to wait.
