It’s been a while since we’ve been graced by the presence of a Windows Phone flagship, but now it seems that a new one could be heading our way sooner rather than later.
Thanks to the team behind NokiaPowerUser, specs for the next Lumia flagship have been leaked online – showing off a pretty powerful phone to say the least.
The last Lumia flagship which came our way was the 930; it was certainly a good offering but has quickly been overtaken by many of this year’s releases.
Luckily for Windows Phone fans, it seems that its next handset could be taking on the big hitters on the market quite comfortably, with a monster spec sheet behind it.
Rumour has it that Microsoft will be using a 5.7” QHD screen which should be more than a match for most other high-end phones.
On top of this, an octa-core processor and Snapdragon 810 chipset provide plenty of speed and responsiveness. Also, 3GB RAM and 32GB storage also meet the standard offering of most flagship phones on the memory front. MicroSD compatibility is also on board, so you needn’t worry about extra storage if you need it either.
We’re still waiting on word of the battery size, but we’d imagine that it would be somewhere in the 3000mAh region considering the size and resolution of the display.
Previous Microsoft smartphones have taken their cameras very seriously, none more so than the Lumia 1020, which packed in a whopping 41 megapixels.
Whilst we don’t quite see this kind of power in the 940XL, we are getting a very solid effort to say the least, with 20 megapixels on the back side of the handset.
Selfie lovers are also helped out with a 5 megapixel front facing lens, which should be perfect for the end of your selfie stick.
Microsoft brings a selection of its own camera features and apps along to play, all of which are likely to be revealed in due course with Windows 10.
The system is likely to feature right out of the box on the Lumia handset, meaning that its launch could coincide with the release of the software – which is slated for the end of July.
Other rumours suggest that the handset could pack an iris scanner, which we think is unlikely, but also a USB C slot, that allows for an ‘any way up’ socket, much like that of Apple’s lightning dock.
Unfortunately, pricing details for the Lumia 940XL haven’t been revealed yet. In fact, details about its price are likely to stay secret until it’s announced, so it could be a little while before we find out. We will, of course keep you up to date when we get more news.
