Microsoft’s first affordable Windows 10 device is now officially available to pre-order here in the UK, following suit with the more luxurious Lumia 950 and 950XL handsets, which were announced last month.
A number of UK retailers are stocking the Windows 10 device, with both contract deals and sim-free options set to cater for a number of tastes. View the latest Lumia 550 prices here.
We detailed the Microsoft Lumia 550 when news of the phone first broke, but what’s wrong with a little catch-up, eh?
Kicking things off for the Lumia device is an industry standard 4.7” display, which itself sports a 720p resolution. This definitely does the job, but as you’d expect, won’t be going head to head with the likes of the QHD screens which have been adopted by many flagship devices of late.
Behind the screen, we get a Snapdragon 210 chipset to play with, which is assisted by a quad-core 1.1GHz processor and Adreno 304 GPU. Again, this doesn’t quite match flagship standard, but is more than good enough considering its budget favouring nature.
1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage make up the memory you’ll be getting, although you can boost the latter by up to 200GB via a MicroSD card, although we doubt you’ll really need 208GB total storage.
A 5 megapixel and 2 megapixel camera duo, back and front, allow for you obligatory new phone selfies and regular snaps, whilst all of this is powered by a 2100mAh battery, which should allow for over a day’s worth of charge.
Considering the lowered specs, it’s no surprise to see the Lumai 550 come in at a much cheaper price tag than the more flagship flavoured Lumia 950 and 950 XL.
In fact, you’ll be able to grab your Lumia 550 for less than £100 in most mobile phone retailers based in the UK. Clove, Carphone Warehouse and Unlocked Mobiles all have the Lumia 550 on their books, with prices varying from £89.99 up to £99.99 depending on where you opt to go.
Carphone Warehouse has the inside track when it comes to delivery though, claiming that you’ll receive the device on December 8th should you order with them. Meanwhile, Clove and Unlocked Mobiles both list December 10th as their release dates, so if you want it sooner you may be better off going for a CPW deal.
As always, these dates and prices are subject to change, so be aware that they could be different come the actual launch date, although this is unlikely. Also, pre-ordering is recommended, but it’s unlikely that the phone will sell out – but if you do want to guarantee that it will be with you on launch you’re better off pre-ordering.
