LG plans to join the Windows Phone 8 club

South Korean tech manufacturing giant has announced that it has plans to jump on the Windows Phone 8 bandwagon later this year.

Managing director of the company, Kwon Soon, allegedly revealed this information to Light Reading India, by saying: “We are actually working on a Windows Phone 8 OS powered smartphone”.

Although this statement looks pretty dead cert, we cannot guarantee that a WP8 is officially in the pipeline for LG until, as so far, few sources can back up these allegations.

However, if a Windows Phone does feature in LG’s plans for 2013, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the company’s focus is turning away from its Android handsets, and it is reported that LG is planning to release up to 30 new Android models between now and the end of 2014.

Adding a Windows Phone to LG’s growing collection could just give the company an extra edge, especially as there is less competition in the WP8 market. Nokia so far dominates the Windows Phone collection with its Lumia range, whilst Samsung and HTC have released various models including the Samsung Galaxy Ativ and the HTC 8X.

Do you think LG is right for spreading into the Windows Phone 8 market? Or should it focus on its Android range Let us know on Twitter, Google+ and Twitter, or and post a comment.
