A report by Bloomberg News has revealed that Apple is planning to develop two larger handsets which also feature curved screens.
The largest screen that currently exists on any iPhone handset is 4-inches, as seen on the iPhone 5s, 5c and 5. However, the report suggests that we could see 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch devices hitting our shelves as soon as next year.
Many critics have come down hard on Apple for failing to keep up with the large-screen trend seen is so many Android flagships including the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Nexus 5.
However, Tim Cook, chief executive of Apple, announced that its iPhones have the best display in the industry, and that the screen size of Apple handsets would not increase unless these standards can be maintained.
Bloomberg has been the first source, however, to suggest that Apple will launch an iPhone with a curved-screen. According to the report, the device’s display will be “curved downward at the edges”.
Devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Round and LG G Flex prove that the technology is ready for curved screen iPhones, but whether Apple is is another question entirely.
