Young Mobile Phone Designer of the Year Announced

Daniel Lau Announced as Young Mobile Phone Designer of the Year!

The winner of the Young Mobile Phone Designer of the Year Award has been announced!

Daniel Lau from Nottingham Trent University won the competition with his yo-yo inspired concept called Sero.

"The award was a godsend for me because I didn’t have a project for my university degree, because I love technology, this is kind of what I want to do in the future I had to seize it with both hands,” said Daniel.

Elizabeth Dodd from the University of Northampton came in in second place winning £500 for her design, Baby Bond.

Joel Mann from De Montfort University also won a £500 cash prize for coming third with his Smart Lock concept.

The Award launched in January, and students from universities and colleges from across the UK were invited to enter the competition.

The brief students were given was to design a mobile phone of the future.

After months of hard work, five finalists were selected by an expert panel of judges with expertise in mobile phone retail, business and product design.  

Award judge and CEO of Breakthemold design platform Grant Cleveland said: “The quality that has been presented today is fantastic, I think it has real potential for future product design and development.

"It’s exciting for the mobile phone industry and I think that there’s real opportunity for the designers to have these progress towards innovative new products”.

The winner and two runners up were announced at an Awards ceremony at Shoreditch Grind, London on Monday 7th July.
