The over the air (OTA) update is being rolled out over the next couple of weeks. You can get it straight away by enrolling in the Android Beta Program, if you have a Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P or Nexus 9 smartphone.
If you don’t have a smartphone running on Android Nougat, then you needn’t miss out. In particular, home screen shortcuts can be enjoyed by joining the Nova Launcher Beta G+ Community and then by downloading Nova Launcher from the Play Store.
The Android 7.1.1 update makes shortcuts directly accessible from the home screen. To view the shortcuts, you simply need to make a long press on a home screen icon.
Home screen shortcuts work on your favourite apps, such as Google Maps and Twitter. A few examples of the shortcuts available for popular apps are listed below:
Earlier in the year, Google announced an initiative to promote gender equality and Google has delivered on its promise by adding new emoji.

Counterparts for emoji that were previously only represented with a male or female emoji, have now been added in Android 7.1.1.
This means that there are now new emoji such as female welders and men getting haircuts.
The final new addition that Android Nougat 7.1.1 brings is keyboard GIFs. You can now send GIFs directly from the keyboard and this is supported in apps such as Google Messenger, Hangouts and Google Allo.
