The LG U8330 is a 3G phone with a typical flip-phone design. It measures 49 x 96 x 24 mm in size and weighs120 grams - not light but it feels both robust and slender. .The black and white display is ideal for text, messages and simple pictures like logos and picture messages, with a display resolution of 176 x 220 pixels.
The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker, while the other side houses a dedicated camera button. An LED notifies you of new messages, active network and missed calls, so it is not necessary to pick up and activate the U8330 to see whether any alerts are waiting.
Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent LG handsets, the phone's oddly designed buttons, with a comfortable centre key, make the phone easer to dial, along with a five-way navigation button centred below the display.
It offers dual band 900/1800 MHz connectivity and support for GPRS, SMS, MMS, email and a range of applications such as Java MIDP 2.0, 64-channels polyphony and a voice recorder - all of which can be used with a laptop or handheld via infrared, though there is no Bluetooth. GPRS support is a fast way to download files to the mobile and the spacious phone book.
A VGA (0.3 megapixel) camera offers basic picture-taking and there is 26 MB of internal memory dynamically shared between images and J2ME applications.
The battery is rated for two hours of talk time or 120 hours on standby.
