The S2 Skyphone from 3 (the network operator) does what successors are often expected to achieve: it improves on the look, feel and specification of its predecessor.
With dimensions of only 103 x 45 x 14mm it makes a good impression first off. There is, of course, the built-in Skype client for seeing who is on line and for making Skype calls. A closer inspection reveals a 3.2-megapixel camera (upgraded from 2 megapixels), a crisp display on a 2.2-inch QVGA screen, 5 0 MB of on-board memory and, thankfully, a microSD card slot that supports up to 4 GB. It can also function as an HSDPA modem.
The 3 Skypephone S2 integrates your Skype contacts into your phone address book and gives you access to "presence" information, call logs and Skype Chat. The handset will be available for around £70 on a pay-as-you go basis: a £10 top up will give you a whole month of laptop twinning ability with a 1 GB downloading allowance - more than enough for average email, YouTube and Facebook needs.
3 has also included a Facebook application directly on the phone and an RSS reader for getting the latest from Stuff.tv.
