Sleek and ultra-thin, the Samsung U600 slide phone is both stylish and comfortable, yet contains a wealth of connectivity and leisure features. For instance, there is a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus, a video camera and a fully-feature music player with expandable memory (slot in card) that could quite happily replace your MP3 player.

The buttons are touch sensitive - not to everyone's liking, true, but once you get used to them, they can be addictive. There is 60 MB of internal memory - enough for around 15 music tracks, but using a MicroSD card will give you room for an additional 100 tracks - and a high resolution display (240 x 320 pixels with 262,144 colours).

The music player supports a wide range of formats - MP3, ACC, ACC+ and e-AAC+ - and has excellent reproduction. You can listen to music either through a wireless Bluetooth headset or through the built-in loudspeaker, which features a Bang & Olufsen digital power amplifier. The player is user friendly with playlists of up to 30 tracks. A PC data link kit is included in the sales package, for transferring music from a PC.

Other features include the messaging options, with support for email attachments and a document viewer for viewing (but not editing) MS Office, PDF and HTML files. There is EDGE connection for fast downloads, quadband operating frequency for global roaming , wireless photo printing with PicBridge-compatible printers and a TV-Out connector for viewing your photos and videos directly on a TV.

Battery life is rated at four hours of talktime and 270 hours on standby.
