This is a Nokia solid bar handset that feels like a phone should feel in the hand and pocket: light, comfortable, unashamedly rectangular, yet packing in lots of features. The Nokia N73 weighs a respectable 116g and measures 110 x 49 x 19mm, but the star of the N73 show is its camera. This is a 3.2-megapixel beauty with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus and numerous macro controls, ensuring clear, sharp pictures.

The N73 is 3G device with a front-facing camera for video calling. The 42 MB onboard memory can be augmented with a miniSD card: the slot is on the bottom edge of the casing and has a protective cover. The screen is satisfyingly large at 2.4 inches (diagonal), capable of showing up to 262 colours (TFT) at a resolution of 240x320 pixels. The display is armed with a translucent metallic substrate, ensuring that information on the screen will remain readable even in the sun.

There is a music player - augmented by the set of stereo speakers on the top and bottom edges - an FM radio with Visual Radio support and several impressive stereo ringtones. The N73 includes a browser for the Web-minded Nokia's Lifeblog software enabling you to post a blog from the handset. Add in the usual contact and diary management and supplied PC synchronisation software and the result is a nicely rounded handset.

The battery is said by Nokia to offer 350 hours performance in standby mode for GSM networks and up to four hours talk time during phone calls, charging up in about two hours.
