Motorola Moto Z

The Announcement in June 2016 brings a new style to Motorola with the Z offering more from an Android smartphone for Motorola than ever before.

Brand New Motorola Smartphone

Meet the new Moto Z

The latest smartphone to join in on the modular trend, Motorola’s Moto Z is one of the most exciting handsets that came out in 2016. Dubbed as the world’s thinnest premium smartphone, it comes with an array of fantastic modules to transform it from a simple (yet incredibly high-quality) phone into objects such as a projector or a speaker.

All About the New Motorola

Motorola might not have been a very popular brand in the UK in the last few years, but it’s starting to make a comeback with more and more exciting and high-end handsets. There’s no doubt the new Moto Z will be able to compete with some of this year’s most talked-about releases – especially where modular design is concerned.

When Is It Coming Out?

The Moto Z was first announced in June 2016, and is available to purchase SIM-free from Motorola’s own website. However, there doesn’t seem to be any contracts on the market allowing you to receive a free handset when you sign up. We’ll update this page as soon as the Moto Z becomes available on contracts, from all the best mobile providers in the UK.

Best Moto Z Features

We take a look at the main new features and how it effects your usage.

Moto Mods

Moto Z Projector Module

Set to be one of the most exciting modular smartphones of the year (sorry, LG G5 – we still like you), the Moto Z features a wide range of modules, dubbed ‘Moto Mods’ by the company. These include a projector capable of projecting an image or video at the impressive size of 70 inches, a speaker which doubles as a battery pack, and battery-only packs which provide up to 2,200 mAh of extra battery life.

As it’s expected, the Moto Mods add some thickness to the handset – but it’s something the Moto Z can handle, being the thinnest smartphone on the market at the moment.

No Headphone Jack

Moto Z Headphone Adaptor

Motorola got there before Apple – but not many people know about it. The Moto Z lacks a headphone jack, which helps to make it so incredibly thin. Instead, users will have to plug their headphones in the USB Type-C port, meaning you won’t be able to charge your phone and listen to music at the same time.

Just like Apple, Motorola is including a 3.5mm adaptor with the handset, so you don’t have to give up using traditional headphones if you don’t want to – but Bluetooth headphones might soon become the new standard.

Display Quality

Moto Z Active Display

The Moto Z’s display is out of this world: with Quad HD quality, the brilliant AMOLED screen reveals deep, dark blacks and rich, vibrant colours. What’s more, the screen is equipped with sensors that pick up on movement and hand gestures in order to wake up the screen when the phone feels it’s about to be used.

This new feature is called the Moto Active Display, and it’s sure to be able to compete with Samsung and LG’s ‘Always-On’ displays.
