The long-awaited Surface Phone, the next flagship in Microsoft’s line-up, is set to be released in the new year. Set to run on the latest version of Microsoft’s Windows operating system, the Surface Phone will without a doubt be able to compete against some of Apple and Samsung’s most famous handsets.

Microsoft’s Surface range, which is well-known for its Surface Book and Surface Pro devices, has become increasingly popular over the last few years, even proving to be a worthy competitor to Apple’s series of laptops and tablets. Can the Surface Phone do the same, and turn even the most ardent iPhone fans into Windows converts? We can’t wait to find out.
While there is no official launch date, rumour has it that the Surface Phone will be released in early 2017 – Microsoft will be attending CES 2017, one of the most important electronics trade shows, so this would be a great time for the company to release a new handset. However, we’ll have to wait and see.

Nothing has been made official just yet, but here’s what we think might be featured on the Surface Phone’s spec list.
While the mobile version of Windows 10 was made available months ago with the release of the Lumia 950 smartphone, it’s said that Microsoft want it to be the last version of the Windows OS and to make sure it works on every platform.
The Surface Phone will be running the latest update of the OS when it launches, and despite the lack of enthusiasm from consumers when it comes to Windows Phones, we can expect the Surface to finally bring out the best of the OS.
Forget all about Apple and Samsung Pay, because Microsoft are breaking into the contactless payment business – with their own version, rumoured to be called Microsoft Wallet. Users will be able to upload their debit and credit card information to their phones, and use a NFC chip to pay at checkouts which support contactless payments.
