Korean giant LG was been instrumental in the "3G revolution" from the start and, after a few phones that came from a very similar mould, produced the U880 - a super-thin, super-long "unisex" flip phone.

For a while, the U880 MUSE was "the world's slimmest 3G phone" and, at 98g, quite a lightweight, too, with an internal aerial and a full range of features, including video calling, media downloads, fast internet access.

The device offers all the usual features, including tri-band connectivity, Bluetooth, digital camera and optional memory expansion via Transflash. It has a 2-inch 262k colour screen with clear, unequivocal buttons - a menu button, labelled "menu" gets you unsurprisingly into the phone's menu and other shortcuts are equally straightforward.

Rather than opting for two digital cameras for video calling, LG relies on just the one with the U880 - a 1.3 megapixel camera that swivels so you can either use it for taking pictures or recording yourself, but not both.

There are external buttons to control its in-built MP3 player, with 70 MB of internal memory for starters that can be augmented by an additional memory card. The U880 can play video in a widescreen format, and includes speakerphone functionality as well as dual external stereo speakers - playing MP3, MPEG4 and AAC media formats.

While the U880 has been superseded by more advanced phones - as is inevitable in this industry - this phone remains a slim, stylish little gem.
