Google Nexus 5 2016 Release Date

The predecessor to this year’s handset was announced in September 2015, and Google tend to stick to pretty regular schedules with their updates, so we can expect the new smartphone to come out around the same time. Android Nougat has already been revealed, though, so it could be earlier. Make sure you keep in touch and we’ll let you know as soon as a date is announced!

Nexus 5 2016 Features

Android Nougat

Android N

The latest version of the operating system was made official a few weeks ago, and we can’t wait to see what new features and exciting updates it contains. We’ve heard about more interactive notifications, which will enable users to reply to messages without having to open the app, and a smarter Google assistant fully integrated into text conversations. There’s also multi-window support, or floating window, enabling users to display two or more apps on their screens at the same time!

What’s more, Nougat will feature 72 brand new emojis, Doze on the Go to help save battery, a better data saving feature and a better settings menu – in short, everything will be better.

Huawei or HTC?

HTC to design the next Nexus

Many reports have suggested the next set of Nexus devices could be manufactured by HTC, with Google taking on a more important role in the design, hardware, and software production than the company had previously done.

However, Huawei have also come forward to say they would be working on the new Nexus this year – so it’s all a bit of a mystery. The only thing we know for sure is that LG will not be manufacturing the phones this year.

Virtual Reality

Daydream VRWe can expect Google’s own virtual reality platform, Daydream, to launch around the same time as the new Nexus 5 – and it’s almost certain that the VR platform will feature on the smartphone. The software will come with a VR headset and controller, which we’re hoping will be available as a bundle when we’re finally able to pre-order the new handset!

How much will the new Nexus handset cost?

Google’s handsets are typically cheaper than most other flagship smartphones, but you should still expect to shell out a fair amount of money to grab a Nexus without a contract. However, monthly plans will help you save some money while getting the brand new smartphone with no upfront cost. Have a look at our bad credit mobile deals if your credit rating isn't the best.
