Daniel Lau from Nottingham Trent University was the overall winner of the competition, taking home a £1000 cash prize.
Speaking to Mobilephones.com, Daniel said: "I put as much work and as much effort as I could in to it.
"I just wanted to move away from the rectangular form factors, so I was just exploring different shapes and I came across the yoyo concept. Originally I wanted that to power it, with kinetic energy from yo-yoing, but then as I developed it I thought ‘nobody is going to spend £500 on a phone and just yoyo it around as it might smash’. So I decided to keep the form factor and then develop it from there”.
