The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact set a new precedent for the miniature smartphone world with its flagship features packed into its tiny body. And to throw a curveball into the mix, Sony skipped introducing a Z2 Compact, favouring of a Z3 Compact instead.
So how is Sony planning to blow us again even more with the Xperia Z3 Compact? We take a look at the Z2 compact vs Z3 Compact…
Although the Z3 Compact is still a ‘mini’ device, it looks like Sony is set to pack some extra inches into its display.
The Z3 Compact boasts a 4.6-inch display, which is 0.3-inches larger than the Z1 Compact. Though the general user might not notice this difference, to film buffs and gamers a larger screen will make a great deal of difference. After all, size matters, right?
Also, when it comes to design the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact has changed quite considerably. Looking at both handsets side by side you can see that Sony has added a new colour palette to the Xperia line up, offering the Z3 Compact in a different range of fun, bright shades.
The one stand out feature of all of Sony’s Xperia range of smartphones has got to be its camera. With a massive 20.7 megapixel lens, the Xperia Z1 Compact undoubtedly boasts the best camera in the ‘mini’ market by far. So will the Xperia Z3 Compact share the same photography prowess?
The Z1 Compact successor does indeed feature the same 20.7MP camera, making both smartphones neck and neck when it comes to their megapixel count.
That said, the Z3 Compact has gained a larger sensor and features the highest ISO count on any existing smartphone. In practice this means your photos will be brighter with less distortion than with your typical camera phone lens.
The Z3 Compact also comes with a number of exciting camera features on board including Face In, an app that captures your selfie each time you take a shot with the rear camera, AR Fun, a feature that lets you decorate and annotate your pics, and Movie Creator, which, well, creates movies!
The Z1 Compact was, and still is, the only miniature smartphone to offer the same range of impressive specs under the hood as its flagship counterpart, and we see no reason why the Z3 Compact won’t follow suit.
In fact, the Xperia Z3 Compact sports a huge quad-core 2.5GHz processor teamed with a Snapdragon 801 chipset, which is sure to make the phone run at lightning speed.
Although there’s not that much in it, the Z1 Compact’s quad-core 2.2GHz processor and Snapdragon 800 chip give the new release that extra edge over its predecessor in the speed stakes.
It’s not just in the specs department that the Z3 Compact blows the Z1 Compact out of the water, however. With a whole range of new Sony features on the Z3 mini smartphone, there’s a lot to get excited about.
Like the Xperia Z, Z1, and Z2, the Z3 Compact is also waterproof. That said, the Z3 Compact in comparison has gained a tougher IP68 rated coating, making the handset hardier than your typical smartphone.
So, with a full round up of the latest Z3 compact specs, features and design pitted against the Z1 Compact, which handset comes out on top?
As you can see, the Z3 Compact boasts a number of enhanced specs and features compared to its predecessor, including a larger camera lens, a mammoth quad-core processor and a larger than life display. That said the device doesn’t leave the Z1 compact trailing too far behind, with an equally impressive 20.7MP camera and waterproof coating .
So if you’re after a ‘mini’ smartphone with a mighty set of specs, either the Z1 or Z3 Compact would be a safe bet.
