If there is one thing that Sony is known for within the industry, it’s the amazing camera which adorns the Xperia Z range of smartphones. And now with Sony’s latest instalment being added to the mix, we can expect the Xperia Z3 to really pack a punch when it comes to its camera features and technology.
So sit back while we run down what’s new, what’s exciting and what we love about the Sony Xperia Z3 camera.
Sony is still the only flagship manufacturer on the market to consistently offer a top of the range camera lens which packs in more than 20 megapixels. Sony kicked off this winning formula with the Xperia Z, followed by the Z1, Z2 and now the Z3- and that’s not to mention its range of Compact devices which also sport the same 20.7MP lens.
Get ready for June 5th 2016: Get the Sony Xperia X with 23MP camera here first.
So what’s new about the Xperia Z3’s camera technology? Well to start, the Z3’s rear facing camera features a 25mm wide angled Sony G lens which essentially means you can get more into your photos, without having to stitch together shots in panoramic mode.
Also, Sony has packed in another first in the Z3 camera by featuring ISO 12800 sensitivity. This, in practice, means you can capture much more detailed photos in low light situations compared to the Xperia Z2, or any other camera phone on the market for that matter.
On the front of the device Sony is offering the same 2.2 megapixel front facing lens as we saw on the Xperia Z2, which is great news for those who are a fan of the selfie. It might not be as strong on the megapixel count as the HTC One M8’s 5MP front camera, but when you add in Sony’s built-in technology and additional camera features, the megapixel argument goes straight out of the window.
If you’re more of a videographer than a photographer, then you haven’t been left out of the equation by Sony either. With 4K video recording capability, the Z3 certainly offers everything you could expect from your flagship smartphone. The handset has also brought with it an improved SteadyShot feature which makes your videos much smoother and professional-looking.
Sony smartphones have made a name for themselves with their mass of built-in camera features which take the already amazing camera to even dizzier heights. And with the new Xperia Z3 camera, Sony has brought us even more features to get excited about.
Face In is this year’s first new addition to the Z3 camera app store, allowing users to capture their reaction using the front facing lens at the same time as shooting the action with the rear camera, just like the dual camera mode on the Samsung Galaxy S5.
AR Fun is another cool app which lets you play around with your shots. Scribble messages, insert stamps or even layer over animations to make your photos truly personal.
Sound Photo allows you to really capture the moment by recording sound at the same time as your still shot, adding an extra edge to your images. Again Sony has taken the lead from Samsung’s Sound & Shot mode on this one, but either way, it’s a great additional feature.
As you can imagine Sony’s Movie Creator allows you to do just that by adding in titles, credits and fun effects. Select the theme for your ‘movie’ and allow the Z3 to do all the hard editing work for you. Add this feature to the Z3’s stellar video camera which offers 4K SteadyShot recording and you’re onto a real winner.
One stand out feature that all of Sony’s handsets boast is the ability to go underwater. But going underwater isn’t the only thing that the Z3 can do, oh no: the Sony Xperia Z3 can take photos and record underwater. So if you have ever wondered how your mates get those underwater diving shots while on holiday, then the Z3 is your answer.
Plus with an enhanced IP68 water and dust proof rating compared to its predecessor’s IP67 certificate, you breathe an even deeper sigh of relief knowing that your Z3 won’t die a soggy death if you accidentally drop it in the bath. Or down the toilet…
