As we’re heading into the summer, many of us will be anticipating a series of long journeys, whether it’s road trips to the seaside or long-haul flights to sunny getaways, this week’s app of the week is sure to keep you entertained…
Draw Something is far from being an unknown app, and with almost 50 million downloads on Android phones alone, we’re not the only ones who think the app’s worth shouting about.
As the name kind of suggests, Draw Something is an app that makes the most of our mobile phones’ touch screens, essentially creating a mobile game of Pictionary.
It might sound simple, and in many ways it is, but what you might not realise is how much hilarity and laughter playing a game of Draw Something can amount to. I played it for hours with my family on Christmas day, for example, despite being sat in the same room!
Either opt to play against a friend who also has the app, or a complete stranger. The app gives you an item, film, or word that you have to draw, and allows you to use the virtual pencil, and palette with various colours, to draw it. Choose from the easy, medium or hard word, making it more of a challenge for you to draw and your opponent to guess.
The aim of the game is to guess what the other player has drawn, and vice versa, in order to win points. The quicker you guess, the more points you win! You can even send messages to accompany your Draw Something sketches, but don’t give the game away by hinting what it is!
What’s great about Draw Something is that you can play it as much or as little as you want. Because the app lets you play multiple games at a time, it means that you’re never waiting around for a friend to respond if they are busy; with a whole globe of fellow Draw Something players out there, the game can simply keep on going! It’s also a great child-friendly app which can get the young ones involved too.
The app is available for free for all Androids and OS smartphones, and costs £2.29 on Windows Phones (version 7.5 and 8) devices.
At present, there’s no app available for the new BlackBerry 10 platform, though, as with many apps, it’ll make its way there in good time.
It would seem that Draw Something has even become something of an art platform; type it into Google Images and have a look at some of the amazing drawings that appear!
